The future of production turning

SPRINT machines from DMG MORI are the epitome of highly economical production turning. The new SPRINT 420 represents the next generation of SWISSTYPE machines. It uses a common machine platform for three sizes for bar diameters from ø 13 mm to ø 51 mm, as in the case of the largest model, the SPRINT 420. Up to three machining units with up to three B-axes and a total of five, six or nine axes enable efficient complete machining of demanding workpieces up to 600 mm in length – bar stock and chuck parts. The SWISSTYPEkit, which has proven itself over many years, is also available as an option here. This increases the stroke from 200 mm to 360 mm, making the SPRINT 420 impressive for both short and long turning. The changeover time between the two variants is less than
30 minutes.

The new SPRINT generation uses a common machine platform for three sizes for bar diameters from ø 13 mm to ø 51 mm, as in the case of the largest model, the SPRINT 420.

The SPRINT 420 has a left and right spindle, both of which operate at up to 6,000 rpm, with a torque of 88 Nm and 15 kW of power in the version with a 51 mm bar passage. The modular tool environment also allows for application-specific configuration of the SPRINT 420. Three independent tool carriers offer space for a total of 35 tools, 27 of which are driven. Their speed is 8,000 rpm. One innovation is the presettable tool holder system, which facilitates digital data exchange as well as unmanned and automated operation - for example via a bar loader or an integrated robot for handling chuck parts.

On the control side, the SPRINT 420 is operated via an ERGOLINE X control panel with CELOS X on a Fanuc 301-B Plus. The app-based manufacturing platform enables intuitive operation and facilitates integration into a networked working environment.

One platform for three sizes

Following the SPRINT 420, DMG MORI will also launch two smaller models, the SPRINT 130 and SPRINT 260. The smallest model processes bar stock with diameters ranging from 13 mm to 26 mm. Since all three versions share the same platform, different configurations with up to three machining units and a total of nine axes are possible in each size.
